Army Research Office awards multimillion-dollar contract

Southborough, Mass.-based Protonex Technology won a $3.5 million contract from the U.S. Army Research Office to develop a 250-watt, portable fuel cell power source for portable, remote and mobile communications devices. Under the terms of the contact, the company plans to adapt its existing fuel-cell and methanol-reformer prototypes into an integrated, rugged power source for use by the Army, Special Operations Command and the Marines.
