Oct 1, 2005 12:00 PM, BY DONNY JACKSON

The city of Lenexa, Kan., has selected Alvarion and Electronic Technologies to deploy a citywide mobile and fixed wireless broadband network that will connect government buildings, municipal vehicles, traffic signals and video cameras throughout the municipality.

The first phase, covering more than 10 square miles, is scheduled to be completed by the end of this month. A second phase is planned to extend coverage to the city's borders, covering about 30 square miles.

Funding was provided through the city's involvement in Operation Greenlight, a 19-city, multi-agency collaborative in the greater Kansas City area.
