Tennessee utility chooses Motorola private wireless system

has announced a $10.2 million contract with the Middle Tennessee Electric Membership Corp. (MTEMC) to deploy its Harmony wireless communications system.
The system—which provides two-way radio and wireless telephone services for small networks and enables up to six simultaneous conversations on a single 25 kHz channel—will replace the current 25-year-old radio system and eliminate MTEMC’s reliance on multiple commercial wireless carriers for additional services.
“Having tripled in size over the last three decades, our current system cannot come close to meeting our needs—an average of 50,000 minutes of communications per month,” said Shawn Long, MTEMC telecommunications specialist, in a statement. “The Harmony system is the ideal solution, with features and functions that will help enhance our efficiency, at a cost comparable to a traditional trunked radio system.”
