Jan 9, 2004 12:00 PM
Verizon Wireless yesterday announced it would spend $1 billion over the next two years to expand its BroadbandAccess 1xEV-DO (evolution-data optimized) wide-area network nationwide. Currently, the carrier is operating the network—which offers average download speeds ranging from 300 to 500 kb/s—in metropolitan San Diego and Washington, D.C. Verizon Wireless said the network would be available to individuals and business customers “throughout significant portions” of its national footprint by summer 2004, with additional markets phased in through 2005.
