Alcatel-Lucent unit chosen by defense agency for technology test

LGS, a subsidiary of Alcatel-Lucent, announced today that the Defense Information System Agency (DISA) has chosen its WiMAX technology for test program that will examine emerging standards-based, commercial off-the-shelf, satellite communications and wireless technology for communications in a mobile tactical environment. The company said it would provide a WiMAX radio access network that includes a base station and access controller, as well as an operation and maintenance center that supports the 802.16e-2005 standard.
