New Orleans selects Tropos Networks for Wi-Fi equipment

Apr 20, 2004 12:00 PM

The city of New Orleans has selected Tropos Networks to supply metro-scale Wi-Fi equipment for a citywide wireless video-surveillance network that will be deployed by Southern Electronics, Tropos announced today.

The Tropos Wi-Fi network will operate in areas where video-surveillance cameras lack access to the city’s wired network, and will enable police officers to view suveillance-camera video while in the field.

“The video surveillance capabilities enabled by the Tropos metro-scale Wi-Fi network help make citizens throughout New Orleans safer,” Mayor C. Ray Nagin said in a statement. “Quickly giving our police department, in effect, extra eyes to patrol our city will deter crime and help apprehend perpetrators when incidents do occur.”
