Aug 24, 2007 11:43 AM, - MRT

San-Jose Calif.-based wireless broadband solutions provider Ubiquiti Networks collaborated with the Italian Center for Radio Activities, an association of Italian radio amateur operators, to set a world record for a 5 GHz, Wi-Fi link that achieved a distance of 188.89 miles, according to the company. The link was established using Ubiquiti’s XtremeRange5 high-power, carrier-class mini-PCI radio modules, and 35 dBi, 5 GHz parabolic dish antennas. The link extends from Sardinia Island to Central Italy and achieves data-rates of about 5 Mb/s, letting operators on Sardinia Island stay in touch with their community on the Italian Peninsula, according to the company.
