Sprint Nextel awarded Motorola the Chicago market for the buildout of its WiMAX wireless broadband service. Motorola will deploy a WiMAX infrastructure to at least 1000 sites in the greater Chicagoland area, with select area coverage for Sprint Nextel’s existing EV-DO network, according to the company. Motorola also is participating in WiMAX equipment and software trials at Sprint Nextel’s Herndon, Va.-based 4G laboratory.
